TRIBE is proud to support the victory gardens of the 52nd fighter wing at spandahlem air force base in spangdahlem germany.
Historically community gardens not only serve as a place for communities to grow a supportive source of food, but a place to build relationships. Community gardens provides peace, comfort, and fulfillment to family members during difficult times such as deployments or extended TDYs. The base population had long wanted the opportunity to have a garden and the process of getting the project approved took almost three years. With the base soil being inherently contaminated, raised beds were proposed and TRIBE’s Andrew Gardner was able to launch the project with a generous donation. Volunteers helped in gathering wood pallets and build them into two meter by one meter raised beds. The bedding soil was donated and landscapers were hired to haul the dirt to the airbase one Saturday afternoon. Three dump trucks of topsoil were delivered followed by many Saturdays and Sundays spent filling the raised beds. A grand opening was held on March 1, 2024 after which the gardeners formed their own committee and the project is now a stand alone entity. Special thanks for Wing Commander Col. Leslie Huack for his unwavering support of this initiative.
